Fencing

Fencing supply and installation across Hampshire. Featheredge, closeboard panels, concrete posts and gravel boards. Properly built to last — posts set in concrete, galvanised fixings throughout.

About This Service

A properly installed fence makes an immediate difference to your garden — better privacy, a defined boundary, and a cleaner backdrop to everything you've created outside. Moore & Son install fencing across Hampshire that's built to last: posts set correctly, boards aligned straight and level, and materials chosen to withstand Hampshire's wet winters and coastal wind exposure.

We supply and install all fencing ourselves. No materials left for you to source, no day-workers who don't know your garden. Jack and his team manage the whole job — from removing your old fence to final tidy-up.

Fencing Types We Install

  • Featheredge (closeboard) fencing — the most durable timber garden fence. Individual boards overlapped and fixed to arris rails, with concrete posts and gravel boards for maximum longevity. Standard heights 1.2m to 1.8m.
  • Fence panel fencing — cost-effective for straightforward boundaries. Installed in concrete or timber posts with gravel boards to keep panel bases off wet ground.
  • Concrete posts and gravel boards — used wherever timber would be in ground contact. Slotted concrete posts accept panels or boards and eliminate the post-rot failure that shortens timber fence life dramatically.
  • Garden gates — supply and installation of timber side gates and access gates. Hung on heavy-duty galvanised hinges with mortice latch or bolt as standard.

How We Install — The Detail That Matters

Posts are set a minimum of 600–750mm into the ground depending on fence height and soil conditions, with fresh concrete around each post and adequate curing time before boards are fixed. We use galvanised fixings throughout — no bright steel screws that rust and stain within six months. All boards and panels are pressure-treated. Ground levels are checked before any post is set, ensuring straight, level runs even on sloping gardens.

Storm Damage Replacement

We carry out emergency fence replacement after storm damage. Old fence removed, ground cleared, new posts set properly — not bodged back into rotten holes. If you've had panels blown down across Hampshire in winter storms, call us for a prompt site visit and written quotation.

We cover Eastleigh, Fair Oak, Chandlers Ford, Winchester, Hedge End, Botley, Southampton and all surrounding Hampshire areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fencing costs in Hampshire typically range from £85 to £130 per linear metre for supply and installation, depending on fence type and height. Panel fencing with concrete posts and gravel boards starts from around £85–£110/m. Featheredge closeboard fencing — which is more durable and longer-lasting — costs £90–£130/m. These prices include removal of existing fencing, new concrete posts, gravel boards and panels or boards. Difficult access, sloping ground or rocky sub-soil may affect the final price.
A properly installed featheredge or closeboard fence with concrete posts and pressure-treated boards should last 15 to 25 years or more. The biggest causes of premature fence failure are: timber posts set directly in the ground without concrete (they rot within 5 to 10 years), panels or boards resting on the soil surface, and bright steel fixings that rust through quickly. We use concrete posts, gravel boards to keep timber off the ground, and galvanised fixings throughout. These details are what separate a fence that lasts from one that needs replacing in a few years.
In most cases, no. You can erect a fence up to 2 metres high in a rear garden and up to 1 metre high adjacent to a highway without planning permission. However, if you live in a conservation area, have a listed building, or there are specific conditions on your property's planning history, restrictions may apply. Always check with your local authority if you are unsure. We will advise on any likely planning considerations at the quotation stage.
