About This Service
Groundworks are the foundation of every outdoor build — and the part most likely to cause expensive problems later if they're not done correctly. Moore & Son carry out concrete and groundworks across Hampshire for domestic and light commercial projects, with the depth of experience to do the job properly the first time.
Jack Moore spent over a decade working on new-build developments across Hampshire — foundations, drainage, blockwork and concrete — before establishing Moore & Son. That experience means our groundworks are done to construction industry standards, not just trade minimum.
Groundworks and Concrete Services
- Concrete bases — garden rooms, sheds, garages, hot tubs, outbuildings and machinery. Correctly sized, reinforced and finished to a smooth or brushed surface as required.
- Strip foundations — for garden walls, extensions, porches and new-build garden structures. Designed to correct depth for local ground conditions.
- Pad foundations — for posts, columns, pergolas and structural point loads.
- Soakaways — designed and installed to drain surface water from patios, driveways and roofs away from buildings. Sized to meet Building Regulations guidance for catchment area and rainfall rates.
- Drainage runs — new drainage channels, pipe runs and connections for patio drainage, downpipe dispersal and surface water management.
- Concrete driveways and hard standings — tamped or power-floated finish. Reinforced mesh as standard.
- Excavation — topsoil strip, reduced levels and bulk excavation for new construction.
Hampshire Ground Conditions and Drainage
Hampshire's mix of chalk and clay sub-soils creates variable drainage across the county. Areas around Eastleigh, Fair Oak and the M3 corridor often have clay lenses that hold water and complicate drainage design. We assess ground conditions on every site visit and design drainage and foundation solutions accordingly — not to a generic template.
Concrete Base Specifications
All concrete bases are formed using shuttered formwork to maintain edge line and finished thickness. Reinforcement mesh (A142 or A193 depending on load) is used in all bases larger than 6m². Concrete is mixed or supplied ready-mixed to C25 specification as standard. Expansion joints are placed in larger slabs to control cracking. Curing time is allowed before loading.
