A new lawn makes more difference to how a garden feels than almost anything else. Moore & Son prepare and lay fresh turf across Hampshire — on properly levelled, improved topsoil that gives the grass the best possible start and ensures it establishes strongly rather than patching and dying out in the first dry spell.

We supply fresh-cut turf from quality Hampshire growers — rolled the same day it's cut. The difference between freshly cut turf and turf that's been sitting on a pallet is visible within weeks of laying. Combined with properly prepared ground, it's what separates a lawn that establishes quickly from one that struggles.

Our Turf Laying Process

• Existing grass and weeds killed off and removed
• Ground excavated to the correct depth for topsoil and turf thickness
• New topsoil imported and spread — typically 100mm depth minimum
• Topsoil raked level, stones removed and surface consolidated
• Pre-turfing fertiliser applied to promote rooting
• Freshly cut turf laid in a staggered brick-bond pattern
• Joints pressed together firmly — no gaps, no overlaps
• Edges cut straight or to shape as required
• Aftercare instructions provided on establishment, first cut and watering

Topsoil Quality and Hampshire Ground

Many Hampshire gardens — particularly in Eastleigh, Fair Oak and the Chandlers Ford area — have thin, compacted topsoil over chalk or heavy clay subsoil. Turf laid directly onto these conditions without proper topsoil preparation will yellow off in dry periods and become waterlogged in wet ones. We import quality screened topsoil and improve the profile so the root zone has the depth and drainage characteristics it needs for a healthy, resilient lawn.

We also supply and spread topsoil for garden levelling, border preparation, vegetable bed creation and general landscaping projects. Bulk topsoil delivered and spread to your requirements, graded and ready for seeding, turfing or planting.

Turf laying is best carried out between September and April in Hampshire when ground moisture is higher and establishment is faster — though we lay turf year-round with appropriate aftercare guidance. Free site visits and written quotations provided across all Hampshire areas.
