About This Service
Artificial grass has transformed significantly in recent years. Modern synthetic turf is soft underfoot, realistic in appearance and genuinely low-maintenance — no mowing, no watering, no muddy patches in winter. Moore & Son install artificial grass across Hampshire on properly prepared bases that ensure the lawn drains freely, stays flat and looks good for 10 years or more.
The quality of the installation is everything with artificial grass. A lawn laid on poor ground or inadequate sub-base will sink in patches, hold water and look tired within a couple of years. We do it properly: full excavation, compacted aggregate base, weed membrane, and professional fixing around all edges.
Our Artificial Grass Installation Process
- Existing turf or surface cleared and disposed of
- Ground excavated to 75–100mm depth
- Compacted Type 1 aggregate sub-base installed and levelled
- Weed membrane laid over sub-base
- Artificial grass cut and laid — pile direction checked for consistent appearance
- Edges secured with galvanised fixing nails or glued to binder boards
- Joins glued — seams made invisible where multiple widths are required
- Silica sand infill brushed in to support the pile and add weight
Choosing the Right Artificial Grass
We source artificial grass in a range of pile heights, densities and colours. For family gardens and play areas we recommend a 35–40mm pile with a soft yarn — realistic, resilient and comfortable for children. For lower-use areas or more formal settings, shorter piles with a finer yarn create a neater, more manicured appearance. We'll bring samples to your site visit so you can choose in context, in your garden, rather than off a screen.
Drainage in Hampshire
Hampshire's rainfall levels mean drainage performance matters. We install drainage-backed artificial grass and ensure the sub-base falls correctly so that surface water never pools. In areas with heavy clay subsoil, we may improve the base drainage before installation — particularly in Eastleigh and Fair Oak where clay retention can be problematic.
Artificial grass is ideal for gardens with pets and children, shaded areas where natural grass struggles, low-maintenance rental properties and gardens where time is limited. Free site visits across all Hampshire areas.
